About

Hi, my name is Pierce Sloan (nephew of Mary and Jimmy) and I'm the current owner of Clippers. So here's a little bit of background about me and the business.

Clippers was founded in 1972 by my aunt Mary Sloan and is still operating on the balcony in Northside Shopping Centre, Coolock, over 50 years later. Mary worked in the hairdressing industry for 35 years. An absolute marvel at up-styles as she served her apprenticeship in the sixties when up-styles were all the fashion. Unfortunately, Mary passed away in 2001, which was a great loss to the staff, customers and local community. Mary’s brother, Jimmy, took over the business after Mary’s passing and continued on her good work. After the Covid pandemic, Jimmy decided to the retire from the business. He passed it to his niece Orliath who steered the business successfully out of the pandemic from March 2022-March 2023.

Since April 2023, I've taken over the business but Clippers has always been a part of my life. When Mary decided to set up Clippers, my dad built the original roof in the store and Jimmy built the other parts of the store. My dad, Tommy, was the store manager when we opened back in 1972. My mam started working in Clippers in the 1980s and my mam and dad met in the store when my mam began working as a stylist. My mam went on to open and run her own salon for the last 40 years. So Clippers and hairdressing has been a part of my life even before I took over the store. We've been here for over 50 years and hopefully there's another 50 still to come.
